Incorporated in 2003, Road House Films is a film and television production company owned and operated by producer/Director Michael MacDonald in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Michael has 20 years of experience in the industry.
Road House Films specializes in factual programming, documentary specials and series for the international broadcast television market. The company focuses on a wide variety of areas and interests, including, but not limited to, science fiction, aviation and historical subjects. Road House Films has completed and is developing projects for SPACE, Bravo, CTV, Global, and Discovery Network, History Television, and Vision TV.
Our business philosophy is predicated on the creation of quality film and television projects, and the fostering of emerging creative talent. Since its inception the company has introduced aspiring filmmakers into the industry, and has offered facilities and support for emerging filmmakers. We continue to do so.
Gemini-nominated filmmaker Michael MacDonald has accumulated 20 years of experience in the film and television industry. Michael first began working as an editor in 1985. It came naturally to him, and he worked continuously in the craft for a decade. In 1993, Michael created Halifax production companies Ocean Entertainment and Ocean Digital. He soon began directing and producing. In 2002, Michael started his new venture, Road House Films. Michael has a particular love for documentaries, and his creative nature has allowed him to successfully take on a variety of roles. He continues to develop new projects, to direct and produce, create music soundtracks, and occasionally even edit.
Michael has created numerous series and one-offs, including VISIONS FROM THE EDGE: The Art of Science Fiction (SPACE/BRAVO), NORTHERN LIGHTS: The Canadian UFO Experience (SPACE), THE FOOD HUNTER (13X30 for Food Network Canada & Food Network USA), THE INN CHEF (65X30 for Food Network Canada & FoxTel Australia), RED HOT AND READY (65X30 for Global & MenTV), THE HERO'S HERO: The Forgotten life of William Barker (1X60 for History Television, Vision, SCN), MINYAN ON THE MIRA (1X60 for CBC & Vision/TV), and THE SHAG HARBOUR UFO INCIDENT (1X60 for Space, CBC, & Discovery UK).
During his career, Michael has been honoured to receive the following acclamations: Mobius Advertising Award 2004, Gemini nominee 2003, Mercury Award 2003, James Beard Award 2002, Honourable Mention Columbus FF, 1999, 2000 and 2004.
He loves spending down time with his three amazing children, Liam, Sam, and Sophie, and cruising the skies as the pilot of his own plane.
